SINCE 1971 PRACTICING OKINAWA SHORIN RYU KARATE DO

Bunkai is the study of the practical applications of a kata, where it literally means: "analysis" or "decomposition".
It is important to apply the kata movement followed by a final complement, being careful to pay more attention to the bunkai than the complement.

                                  THE 3 KINDS OF BUNKAI
1.
OMOTE - The basic application of movement, which is what is shown is what  seems be. Blocks are simply blocks, punches are simply punches.
2.
URA - Movements which hide other purposes, like blocks that are strikes or punches that can be used as blocks at same time.
3.
HONTO - the real purpose of some movements which are grappling, throws, locks instead of simple blocks and circular movements.
